For instance, Edward was dazzling to Bella. In the Twilight book, Edward repeatedly smiled a crooked smile. Every time he did so, Bella just couldn’t resist agreeing or loving him. Dazzling makes the book really interesting. Why? In the first 3 books, Edward dazzles Bella, but in Breaking Dawn, Bella dazzles Edward.

One of Bella’s adored friends in Twilight the novel is Jessica. She is a sweet, innocent girl who sticks by Bella’s side through it all. Well, as much as she can. Jessica can also give off the “I’m too cool for you” feeling. Thus, this is surely the reason why the movie mixed Jessica and Lauren’s characters together.

In the movie, Jessica and Lauren’s character’s are mixed together to make one; Jessica. Apparently, Summit Entertainment could only afford to have one “catty” character. It really matters to the story to have both characters. The difference between characters is extremely interesting.

The diversity between Lauren and Jessica’s character’s is very important. The movie needs to know the difference between them. Jessica is much kinder and more loving, and Lauren is completely rude and jealous. Lauren directs Jessica’s thoughts; she overpowers her. Having both characters sets a good contrast.

Everyone knows that James tries to kill Bella. But does everyone know that James is actually the “alpha” of the Nomad clan? Laurent puts on a great show trying to look like he’s “alpha.” What does this prove, though? That he wants to be “alpha”? No one, really knows why, but perhaps he feels power when he pretends.

In the movie, Laurent does pretend to be “alpha,” but the only real hint we get is when Laurent tells Carlisle that James is, “lethal.” Another line from Laurent’s movie character is, “”James let’s not play with our food,” (Twilight, Laurent) showing that James will listen to Laurent. Usually the strongest and smartest is leader. James is a tracker, so he can find someone by their scent, and that’s his “power.” Laurent’s power is basically just his acting and pretending. He pretends to be Bella’s friend, and turns out, he wants to eat her himself, instead of save her for Victoria. Laurent shows he has the potential to be a future clan leader, but can he really be? Reading the book will make things easier for one while watching the movie. Things will make more sense.

Bella’s character not only changes as she grows, but when she changes from novel to movie. In the book, Bella describes herself to be a “loner” and difficult to relate to other people of her kind (human) and making friends. Bella easily attracts danger and clumsiness

Bella’s strength of will is noticeably different. In the novel, Bella is smarter; she knows when to assert herself. In the movie, she is just completely obsessed with him. Bella is a pushover in the movie, as well. Edward is supposed to beg Bella to let him drive the truck. In the film, she just lets him! In the movie Bella is so flat, it’s not that Bella’s character is unemotional, she’s just a reserved person, so she really does care about what her friends say and do, shes just shy, and always feels like shes on the edge of the group. In the movie she has no emotional response to them at all; she could care less about them.

The scene where Edward saves Bella from the bikers is another example where Bella can disagree with Edward. He tries to get her to stay for dinner, but Bella says that she cannot. In the film, she just instantly agrees to stay.

Theatrically, Bella’s character is antisocial, in that the only person that she will have an ongoing conversation with is Edward, or about Edward. Even her conversations with Edward are simply about his majesty and the cruel situation that they find themselves in, because he is a “vampire”.

Twilight as a novel was very romantic and cute. The mood is mixed in the story. There are points in the story where it’s gloomy, happy, romantic, amusing and other things all at once. The rush of the story is exhilarating. A situation that makes one say, “Aw” in Twilight is when Edward states, “Before you, Bella, my life was like a moonless night. Very dark, but there were stars- points of light and reason… And then you shot across my sky like a meteor. Suddenly everything was on fire; there was brilliancy, there was beauty. When you were gone, when the meteor had fallen over the horizon, everything went black. Nothing had changed, but my eyes were blinded by the light. I couldn’t see the stars anymore. And there was no more reason for anything.” (Meyer, 514, New Moon) Edward says little things like these in the book, but why can’t he say long, beautiful monologues in the movie? The stated quote can make one feel happy and amazing inside, just by reading one paragraph of a novel. The emotions you have while reading a novel sets your love or hate for the book.

The film, on the other hand, gives off a different mood. While watching the movie, one can get the feeling of hate, by annoyance of a character; the film in general can make one unhappy. Another feeling that is given off is mystery. Is Edward a vampire or just a quiet boy? The feeling of mystery has you sitting on the edge of your seat wondering what’s going to happen next – if this is ones first time watching.

All together, the film and the movie are very different in many ways. Sometimes the movie is better than the book, sometimes it is vice versa. Every book will always have more detail in it; most times the novel is published first, making it the main storyline, so no matter what, the book will always be more interesting.
